A number of area communities have observances planned in honor of Memorial Day, which is Monday.

By town, they are:

Farmer City: 10 a.m. May 30, downtown Central Park, conducted by American Legion family and the VFW; march follows to city cemetery with tribute at tomb of the unknown; "Patriots on Wheels" judging and contest follows, downtown; alternate site, Farmer City American Legion.

Heyworth: 2 p.m. May 29, Little-Embry-Rainey Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1559, Heyworth; guest speaker: David Brown, Northbrook, World War II veteran who landed on Utah Beach; auxiliary to decorate graves at Heyworth Cemetery; speakers, march, prayer, taps.

LeRoy: 8 a.m. May 30, Gilmore Cemetery, with LeRoy American Legion Post 79; 10 a.m., parade; 11 a.m., Oak Grove Cemetery.

Pontiac: May 30, parade, downtown Pontiac.

Saybrook: 10 a.m. May 30, Riverside Cemetery, Saybrook, and 10:30 a.m., Cheney's Grove Township Cemetery, both conducted by Saybrook American Legion Post 427 and Sons of American Legion Post 427.

Waynesville: 10 a.m. May 30, Evergreen, Union, Rockcreek and Fairview cemeteries (in order), all in Waynesville; return to American Legion Post 1189 for reading, certificates, lunch.
